Publisher's Synopsis
Quiet Valor is the final book in The Bloody Harvest trilogy; Quiet Valor follows Jacob Martin, Benjamin Kelly, Rachel Kelly, and Amanda Wilson.
In The Bloody Harvest, Jacob Martin was sent to Richmond, Virginia, as a spy for the United States War Department. His orders required him to suddenly disappear, breaking his engagement with Rachel Harrison, a move he later regretted. Rachel married Jacob's best friend, Benjamin Kelly. Their marriage eventually becomes complicated after Jacob re-enters the picture. After infiltrating the Confederate Secret Service, they use Jacob to carry information to their spy mistress, Amanda Wilson, in Washington, but Amanda's scheme did not workout as planned.
Book one ended with Benjamin meeting with Jacob along Antietam Creek, Maryland.
Book two, Prayer & Valor, picked up with Benjamin serving on General Lee's staff. The Battle of Chancellorsville was fought with plenty of participation by Benjamin. Simultaneously, Jacob continued his covert and spying activities for the War Department at Vicksburg, Mississippi.
After Jacob narrowly escaped death by Confederate agents at Vicksburg, Benjamin and the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia begin their march toward Pennsylvania.
Jacob returned to Washington for his next assignment. He received orders to learn the individual's identity who stole the plans for a sophisticated warship under construction by a private contractor for the Union Navy and eliminate them after recovering the ship's plans. He requested Amanda's help.
Since the winter of 1863, Amanda had been operating as a Union spy in London, England. She managed to infiltrate British sympathizers and Confederate covert agents, making it possible to assist Jacob in recovering the ship's plans.
The mission led Jacob to New York City. He became knowledgeable of a much larger spy ring. Still, while planning and preparing for covert activity in New York City, Jacob was suddenly sent to observe the Gettysburg battle for President Lincoln.
At Gettysburg, Benjamin was wounded and discovered by Jacob. Jacob sent for Rachel to take Benjamin home. After Gettysburg, Jacob and Amanda travel to New York City to deal with the Confederate spy ring.
In book three, Quiet Valor, the story begins with Amanda's traumatic return to the Southern Confederacy on a blockade runner and escaping capture. After Amanda returns to Richmond, she told her daughter, Sarah, another Confederate spy, how she was freed from a Northern prison and could return to spying, but she has an alternative motive. Once more, Amanda was sent beyond the Union lines to obtain information. To disguise her mission, she becomes involved in a relationship with a Union officer that almost ends her life. Surprised, Jacob and Amanda unexpectedly cross paths in unusual circumstances. Will meeting Jacob affect their lives and relationship? Will they both accept their fate?
After returning to Washington, Jacob went to Harpers Ferry to carry out his plans with Rachel. Jacob and Rachel plotted how they would break the news of their relationship with Benjamin and his family. However, Rachel remained confused and uncertain about her relationship with Jacob and Benjamin. Benjamin fails to recognize Rachel's confusion. How will their relationship play out with Jacob and Rachel's marriage? What about Amanda?
