Publisher's Synopsis
This new edition of the Q'eqchi' Mayan Dictionary builds upon the first version with the addition of thousands more words along with over 2,400 example sentences from authoritative sources. New to this edition also are sense differentiations and subentries to headwords showing related terms and phrases. There are three principal sections:
- SECTION I - Section 1 contains a simple introduction to Q'eqchi' orthography and pronunciation for English speakers that are new to Q'eqchi', as well as a comprehensive overview of Q'eqchi' grammar that outlines the principal parts of speech and how they are formed into proper inflections, conjugations, and sentences.
- SECTION II - Section II is an alphabetical list of over 10,000 Q'eqchi' words and phrases followed by their parts of speech and English equivalent(s). This section contains over 1,000 illustrations along with extensive notes on Q'eqchi' history and culture.
- SECTION III - Section III is a reversal index that contains an alphabetical listing of the English words corresponding to all of the Q'eqchi' entries in Section II. The dictionary also includes helpful notes on grammatical usage and evidence for borrowed words where possible. In addition, this edition includes entries for many Q'eqchi' place names and their etymologies and English meanings.
