Pygmalion is a play by Bernard Shaw, written in 1912 and performed in London theaters in 1914. It is the story of Henry Higgins, London linguist and professor of phonetics, who bet with an officer friend, Colonel Pickering, which he could transform in no time, an uneducated little florist, Eliza Doolittle, with a heavy suburban accent, into a true English lady. This play was adapted for the cinema by Shaw himself, and for which he received an Oscar. George Bernard Shaw, July 26, 1856, Ireland - November 2, 1950, England, known at his insistence as Bernard Shaw, was an Irish (and British) playwright, critic, polemicist and political activist. His fame ranks him second just after Shakespeare, among British playwrights. In 1925, he received the Nobel Prize for Literature, and in 1938, he provided the screenplay for a filmed version of Pygmalion for which he received an Oscar. He died aged 94.
