Publisher's Synopsis

This short book was originally intended to be the author's final offering to the International Society for Research on Human Ideas of Ultimate Reality and Meaning, but it remained unfinished before the society's dissolution in 2018. It summarizes, in three chapters, not just the increasing limitations on humanity's future on this planet, but the ultimate fate of the universe according to the more recent opinions of contemporary scientists - most recently by physicist Brian Greene, and which reinforce the views emphasized years ago by philosopher Bertrand Russell and anthropologist Ernest Becker. Against these, the author, inspired by psychiatrist Viktor Frankl's description of religious faith as "trust in ultimate meaning", presents his own understanding of religion's promise of salvation, not just for believers, but for all those who seek the ultimate good.
