"Active Science" is a complete skills-based course for 11-13 year-olds. It works on the principle that pupils learn best doing things rather than just reading about them, and by getting continuous expert feedback. Each pack includes pupils' books, copymasters and a teacher's guide.;The pupils' books included single or double-page spreads, most of which include a specific assessment opportunity focusing on one of the skill areas, whilst the "Extras" at the end of each spread provide activitie to extend the topic.;Each pupils' book is accompanied by a set of copymasters, containing both a bank of worksheets and a range of assessment material. The worksheets provide a variety of activities to support and extend activities in the pupils' book. Assessment material includes, end-of-unit tests, self-assessment sheets, a test of basic practical and data-handling skills, record of achievement sheets, and end-of-course tests for each skill area.;The teacher's guide explains fully the ideas behind "Active Science" and gives detailed guidance for each spread which includes a list of apparatus needed, appropriate video resources, specific criteria for each assessment opportunity and suggestions for further activities and investigations.
