He completed a PhD at the Nottingham Trent University on the use of pumps as turbines, and continues to work there as a Senior Research Fellow. He has his own engineering consultancy, Hydro-Active Engineering, and has worked in Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Guyana.
