Publisher's Synopsis
Professional voice users (singers, actors, broadcasters, clergy, attorneys, educators, etc.) with significant, lasting change in vocal quality or stamina experience a serious threat to self-definition and self-image. When the change is permanent, they must acknowledge and grieve the loss of a body part and release the associated emotions. When the prognosis is uncertain, vocal professionals move through several phases of emotional adjustment which necessitate reality testing and appropriately tailored psychological interventions.
