Le petit recueil des impostures innocentes, qui est fort rare, fut sans doute peu r�pandu lors de sa pu blication, quoiqu'il e�t �t� imprim�, non � Magde bourg, comme il est dit sur le titre du livre, mais � Paris, en vertu d'un privil�ge secret obtenu au Eu reau de la librairie. Fr�ron, qui �tait li� avec son confr�re Meusnier de Querlon, a rendu compte de ce recueil, dans l' ann�e litteraire (tome V de l'an n�e 1761, p. 101 o� il t�moigne beaucoup d'estime et de sympathie pour l'auteur, qui partageait, en effet, presque toutes ses opinions au double point de vue de la critique morale et de la critique litt�raire. Nous allons extraire de cet article lejugement qui con cerne psaphion et les hommes DE prome'thee, bien que Fr�ron n'ait fait que reproduire le texte de l'au teur L'auteur, dit - il, lut, il y a quelques ann�es, deux de ces romanspr�tendus antiques ils lui parurent ing�nieux, mais il n'y trouva ni costume ni le moin dre go�t de l'antiquit�. Il conclut de l� que les au; teurs de ces pastiches litt�raires avaient manqu� leur principal objet: il voulut donc s'essayer dans ce genre c'est � cet esprit d'�mulation que nous devons psaphion.
