Publisher's Synopsis
This booklet offers ideas for school boards in carrying out their legal duty to promote home-school links. After explaining why home-school partnership is important, the booklet suggests how parents and teachers can be brought together through regular consultations and reports about schooling matters - at individual, classroom, year and whole-school levels. Practical guidance is given to school boards in helping to influence, develop and monitor school policies on home-school liaison. The booklet offers checklists for the boards to refer to when doing so. Detailed guidance is also given to school boards in preparing their own reports for parents. It then explains what role can be played by school boards in finding out about and representing parents' points of view on various issues and concerns, such as what is taught at school, discipline, homework and school spending. At the end is a summary of the School Boards (Scotland) Act, an annotated reading list of publications on home-school relations, and the addresses of organizations with an interest in home-school relations.
