Publisher's Synopsis

This book covers all aspects of BASIC programming, from the perspective of an engineer, with engineering applications emphasized throughout, so that students learn to appreciate the effectiveness of micros in engineering practice. Numerous programming examples illustrate how various engineering problems can be solved on the computer. Shorter examples demonstrate some of the finer points of the BASIC language, and many of the larger programs illustrate the implementation of the more common numerical methods used by the engineer. Students are encouraged from the beginning to enter the programs into the computer and interact hands-on. The use of headers and comments in the example programs make the understanding of the coding easier and prompt good programming habits at this early stage of learning. The emphasis is on writing structured programs that are easy to understand and maintain.;This book should be of interest to degree and diploma students on introductory courses in programming and numerical analysis, in departments of general production engineering.
