It should be noted that "Profile of the International Fluid Sealing Industry" covers those items and materials used, very largely in the mechanical engineering sector, to effect hermetic closures or separation of fluids. It thus covers gaskets and packings, O-rings, and mechanical and bellows seals. It does not cover flexible sealant materials, used largely in the construction sector, mainly to exclude water seepage into buildings or around kitchen and bathroom fixtures.
