It is with much pleasure, and with the greatest confidence that the Council have the honor of proposing his name as that of an Honorary Member of the Asiatic Society, the highest distinction which it can give. While on the eve of his departure from India, they regret the approach ing loss of a friend who has endeared himself to all who know him, they wish him all happiness and prosperity and further honours, amidst his new surroundings.
