Excerpt from Proceedings of the Annual Meeting of the Stockholders of the Stockholders of the Cape Fear and Yadkin Valley Railway Company: Fayetteville, May 1st, 1884
Resolved, That if the City of Wilmington, or individuals East of Fayette ville, will pay the necessary outlay to make a thorough survey, and ascertain the most practicable route for the road bed from Fayetteville to Wilmington, With estimates of cost, that a corps of Engineers be organized at once and the survey be prosecuted to completion, the money thus furnished to be a subscription to the capital stock of this Company, and that a line be surveyed by the way of Clinton upon the same terms as is proposed to the citizens and. City of Wilmington.
