Publisher's Synopsis

Established in 1987, the CyberArts competition for the Prix Ars Electronica is now internationally recognized as barometer of trends in contemporary media art. Previous competitions have featured a total of some 25,000 works representing contributions to the field of media and computer art by artists from all over the world. In texts and illustrations, CyberArts 2004 documents the works selected by an international team of experts as the best entries in the categories of Computer Animation/Visual Effects, Digital Musics, Interactive Art, Net Vision and the national youth competition u10 - freestyle computing. The new category of Digital Communities was added on the occasion of the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Prix Art Electronica. Two Golden Nicas were awarded for Internet projects of outstanding socio-political significance in this category. Also newly introduced was the Art and Technology Grant program [the next idea]. This substantial book is accompanied by a DVD containing clips from the best computer animations and visual effects, featuring the price winning movie "Ryan" by Chris Landreth in full length (13:55 min.), as well as a CD featuring selected works in the "Digital Music" category. Festival Ars Electronica, Linz, September 2 - September 7, 2004
