Publisher's Synopsis
After a general introduction to the subject of electron spin resonance, Professor Atherton moves on to discuss the factors determining the transition frequencies, such as the eigenvalues of the time-averaged Hamiltonian. As well as explaining how to obtain the various sorts of spin Hamiltonian parameters from the spectra, their interpretation using the quantum theory of molecular electronic structure is discussed.;The second half of the book deals with the manifestations of the time-dependence of the Hamiltonian, that is, with relaxation, and includes new material on saturation-transfer spectroscopy, pulsed ESR and CIDEP. Throughout the book Professor Atherton adopts an integrated approach discussing conventional ESR measurements along with multiple resonance methods (in particular, ENDOR).
