Excerpt from Primary Forest Products Industry and Timber Use, Kansas, 1980

Average annual lumber production at sawmills increased. Between 1964 and 1980, the number of medium-size sawmills rose from 6 to 11 while the number of small sawmills dropped from 73 to 48. Loggers harvested more than 10 million cubic feet of timber products in each of the two eastern Units, accounting for 87 percent of the State's roundwood harvest.
