This volume examines how developmental issues facingolder youth impact their crossover into earlyadulthood, and investigates innovative strategies beingemployed to better meet the needs of these youth. Implications forpolicymakers and funders in taking the support of older youth toscale are also considered in this volume.
There is a growing concern that young people are reaching theage of eighteen unprepared for the primary challenge of youngadulthood: successfully joining the workforce or continuing on tohigher education or vocational training. In order to see outcomesimprove for older youth, especially low-income youth of color, wemust have a better understanding of their developmental needs inorder to create supported pathways for their eventual transition toadulthood. This will require new policies to improve coordinationat the systems level and increased attention to expanding theiraccess to supportive institutions and services.
