Laurence Echard (c. 1670-1730) was a British historian, best known for The History of England: From the First Entrance of Julius Caesar and the Romans to the End of the Reign of King James. Echard translated on commented on the works of Publius Terentius Afer (c. 195-159 BCE), a playwright of the Roman Republic of North African descent, and Titus Maccius Plautus (c. 254-184 BCE), a Roman playwright whose comedies are the earliest surviving intact works in Latin literature.
