Publisher's Synopsis

On August 17, 1982 the Session C-7 "Minting, Monetary Circulation and Exchange Rates", was organized in Budapest at the "8th International Economic History Congress". A large group of specialists gathered in Budapest to report on current research and to discuss provisional and final results that had been achieved in the field of monetary history. The papers given, revised and expanded, were the basis for a book published in 1984 by the THF. In addition, this book includes the papers presented at the Bloomington. Conference, held in November 1982. At the time no one could predict that this was the start of a solid tradition which would bring us together three years later at the University of the Pacific at Stockton and last year at Keio University in Tokyo, Japan.
