Publisher's Synopsis

What is being offered within the covers of this book is a combination of several personal postcard collections. No one set should be expected to include all of the various postcards produced and distributed as pertaining to the Rockaway peninsula. For some seven decades (1880-1940) Rockaway was, quite fortunately, considered to be a summer-vacation resort community thereby deserving more than its fair share of postal cards depicting scenes of major attractions offered in the hope of encouraging the widest possible population and variety of tourists to frequent the pristine Rockaway oceanfront. Although over 2,000 different "historical" postcards were originally retailed during the first fifty years of the 20th Century, fewer than half that number of unique scenes have survived into modern times. This volume offers images of over 200 of the more popular postcards issued during the period of 1900 to 1950. Now you can add these color and black-and-white reprints to your own collection. Informative captions accompany the cards providing interesting insight as to what is being displayed -- combining education and entertainment into one enjoyable picture book.
