POP JAPAN is an introduction to 25 contemporary Japanese artists and a comprehensive catalogue theri respective works. Altogether this volume introduces a total of 194 indivisual artworks depicting a variety of human, animal and character subjects. Each of the artists featured in this volume is a Japanese national currently residing and working in Japan, be they illustrators, graphic artists or other art-makers. Although based predominantly in Japan, a great number of the featured artists have previously exhibited on an international level, in solo and group exhibitions at a number of locations across America, Europe and Oceania. Recently contemporary Japanese culture has taken the world by storm making Japan the epitome of "cool" has become the zeitgeist which continues to influence international contemporary culture. At the very heart of this cultural revolution lies the phenomenon that is "Japanese Pop Art". There can be no doubt that the artists featured in this volume are among the host of creators who have influenced the culture of a generation and show no signs of slowing down.
