Improving public safety by building trust with communities and changing police culture requires authenticity and accountability. We need to fundamentally change the culture of policing to build trust, legitimacy and accountability. New laws should require disclosure of police violence. There are18,000 police departments in the U.S. and there is no federal law requiring departments to disclose when officers kill or severely injure citizens. Without data, the scope of police violence can't be accused.
