Lord Dunsany was a prominent Anglo-Irish author and playwright. Dunsany was a prolific writer and his fantasy fiction was a major influence on other great authors such as Tolkien and Lovecraft. Dunsany was also notable for being the chess champion and pistol-shooting champion of Ireland. Many of his short story collections as well as his novel, The King of Elfand's Daughter, are still widely read today. Plays of Gods and Men, published in 1917, is a collection of the following plays: The Tents of the Arabs, The Laughter of the Gods, The Queen's Enemies, and A Night at an Inn.
