Publisher's Synopsis
This volume contains the edited lectures of the invited speakers at a meeting held in Swansea in April 1985. It complements volume no. 23 in this series which concentrated on genetic manipulation. The emphasis is on what is possible in the short-term, and on ways in which the current knowledge of plant biochemists may be built upon using biotechnological techniques. The contents include papers on forest products and particularly crop plants, reviewing the latest technical information with the authority for which this series is known. There are in addition overview papers on such matters as the commercial significance of plants and problems of 'patenting'.
