Publisher's Synopsis
Collection of comedy dramas starring Judi Dench. 'Philomena' (2013) is based on the former BBC political correspondent Martin Sixsmith's book 'The Lost Child of Philomena Lee' and follows Sixsmith (Coogan) as he sets out to help Lee (Dench) in her search for the illegitimate son who was taken from her by the Catholic Church when she fell pregnant in 1952. As the trail eventually leads them to the United States and her son's remarkable story, the pair find that, despite their age difference, they begin to form a deep, enduring bond. 'The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel' (2011) follows the experiences of a group of elderly Brits who arrive to take up residence in a newly-opened retirement home in Bangalore, India. Despite its glossy publicity campaign, the Marigold turns out to be rather different from the refurbished luxury hotel advertised in the brochures. However, it soon begins to reveal some unexpected charms of its own. 'Mrs Henderson Presents' (2005) stars Dench as Laura Henderson, a widow who refuses to spend the rest of her days playing bridge. When she sees an old London theatre for sale she decides to buy it and turns it into The Windmill, a theatre where its shows feature nude women. While the Germans continue to bomb London outside, Mrs Henderson and her theatre manager Vivian Van Dam (Bob Hoskins) try their best to raise people's spirits and provide quality entertainment.
