Publisher's Synopsis

In the past decades, there has been unstoppable and increasing growth in
technology and communication systems have not been an exception. The
communication systems have not only increased in terms of popularity but also in
terms of improved technology. In the form of increasing demand for cellular phone
services, teleconferencing wireless cable television, mobile radio, wireless internet,
wireless computer networking and wireless communication systems etc. have
penetrated in our daily life. These could happen only because of integration
characteristic of microstrip antenna with other circuits. Microstrip antenna (MSA),

in its basic form consists of a radiating metallic structure above
ground plane and supported by a substrate. The radiating structure is generally of
copper and substrate with dielectric constant of less than 10. The power is fed by
several means like probe feed, microstrip feed, proximity coupled microstrip feed,
aperture coupled microstrip feed and coplanar waveguide feed. Microstrip patch
antennas are relatively inexpensive to fabricate & design because of its plain 2-
dimensional physical geometry. They are employed generally at UHF and higher
frequencies because the size of the antenna is directly tied to the wavelength at the
resonant frequency.
