Publisher's Synopsis
This book discusses up-to-date information on haematopoietic growth factors that regulate the production and function of phagocytes under normal, steady-state conditions. It summarizes alterations in myelopoiesis and mature phagocyte function that accompany major thermal injuries. It places special emphasis on in vitro model systems that can be used to determine the probable causes and possible treatments for post-burn related defects in the proliferation and maturation of myeloid progenitors and the function of their mature progeny. Exploration of the potential use of recombinant human cytokines as biological response modifiers in immunosuppressed burn patients is discussed.
