Publisher's Synopsis
After her ninth birthday, Petoony and Crystal befriended an old homeless man, named Smokey Joe, and his dog, in the woods where he lived. When Petoony and Crystal noticed a lot of mysterious jewelry in the old man's shack, it was later determined to be from the jewelry store heist, that had occurred earlier in the week. Petoony and Crystal tried to prove he was innocent, while he remained in jail.Petoony and Crystal were able to find clues, which enabled the police to capture the actual thieves. Afterward, Smokey Joe was found innocent and released from jail. Because of his innocence, the Pinemore's wanted to give Smokey Joe a proper burial and have his story written up in the local newspaper. After the paper hit the streets, the whole town came out to attend his funeral, and Smokey Joe's dog found a new home.
