Der Geschichte der russisch-orthodoxen Kirche in der Zeit Peters des Grossen, seinem alten Lieblingsthema und einem Schwerpunkt seiner wissenschaftlichen Tatigkeit seit seiner Dissertation in Osteuropaischer Geschichte uber 65 Jahre hinweg, ist der zweite Band ausgewahlter Schriften von Robert Stupperich Arbeiten gewidmet. In Moskau geboren und aufgewachsen, wo er schon als Kind das orthodoxe Kirchenleben miterlebte, hat er sich schon in seinem Studium in Berlin intensiv mit der russischen Orthodoxie beschaftigt und dementsprechend die kirchlichen Reformen Peters des Grossen und seines Mitarbeiters Feofan Prokopovic als Thema seiner Dissertation bei Otto Hoetzsch gewahlt. Ein Teil der hier gesammelten Arbeiten stammt noch aus den Dreissiger Jahren, andere sind spater in Munster, wo er das Ostkirchen-Institut aufgebaut hatte, geschrieben, einige noch in den 1990er Jahren. Ein Beitrag zum griechischen Erbe der Russischen Orthodoxen Kirche war schon im 1. Band seiner Schriften zur griechisch-orthodoxen Kirche aufgenommen. Einige allgemeine Aufsatze zur orthodoxen Kirche, die dort schon abgedruckt sind, gelten wie fur die griechische auch fur die russische Kirche. Die Aufsatze uber "Kiev - das zweite Jerusalem", in dem die erste Predigt Feofan Prokopovics vor Peter dem Grossen in Kiev den Ausgangspunkt der Diskussion bildet, und "Protestantismus und Orthodoxie im Gesprach", in dem es auch um die Beziehungen in der Zeit Peters geht, hatten auch in diesem Band Platz finden konnen. Als Einleitung dient eine Behandlung der russischen Kirchengeschichte wahrend der jungeren Zarenzeit; in das Thema der kirchlichen Beziehungen zum Westen, das immer wieder anklingt, fuhrt ein anderer ubergreifender Aufsatz ein. Die historischen Artikel beginnen mit dem Patriarchen Filaret, dem Begrunder der Romanov-Dynastie und Urgrossvater Peters des Grossen. Dann folgen Besprechungen verschiedener historischer und kirchenhistorischer Episoden und Aspekte aus der Zeit Peters, gefolgt von einer allgemeinen Bewertung seiner Kirchenpolitik; dabei ist auch die Dissertation zu Staatsgedanke und Religionspolitik Peters des Grossen. An Hand des Briefwechsels des Zaren und seiner Denkschriften konnte der Verfasser nachweisen, in welchem Mass Peter in dem ihm vom Westen vermittelten auf naturrechtlichen Theorien aufgebauten Staatsgedanken und seiner religiosen Grundposition lebte, die ebenso davon wie vom byzantinischem Muster des Zaren als des Gesalbten Gottes gepragt war. Nach den von ihm erlassenen Gesetzen, insbesondere nach dem Geistlichen Reglement, wird der Aufbau der kirchlichen Verwaltung dargestellt und seine Arbeit gekennzeichnet. Darauf folgt eine Reihe von Aufsatzen zum Novgoroder Erzbischof Feofan Prokopovic, dem eigentlichen Urheber der Kirchenreformen Peters des Grossen. Zum Abschluss behandeln zwei Aufsatze zu den Heiraten der Zarenfamilie im 18. Jh. mit Angehorigen evangelischer Furstenhauser deren konfessionelle Implikationen.
