Publisher's Synopsis
In this volume, international experts assess the clinical value and limitation of current techniques and strategies for embryonic and foetal diagnosis, foetal therapy, antepartum and intrapartum assessment of the foetus, prevention of late abortion and premature birth, and evaluation and management of premature and high-risk neonates. Included are discussions of antenatal DNA diagnosis, imaging and Doppler techniques in obstetrics, antepartum and intrapartum monitoring of the foetal heart, and transabdominal laserspectrosopy in the foetus during labour, as well as balanced views on the clinical value of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, the utility of magnetic resonance and near infrared spectroscopy in neonates, and the benefits and risks of surfactant replacement therapy. Close attention is also given to the role of infections in causing premature birth.
