Mary Dorcey was born in County Dublin. She won the Rooney Prize for Literature for her short story collection A Noise from the Woodshed (1989), and her novel Biography of Desire was a bestseller and reprinted three times (1997). She has published four poetry collections, most recently Like Joy In Season, Like Sorrow (Salmon, 2002). Her poetry is taught on the Irish Junior Certificate English course. She is a Research Associate at Trinity College Dublin, and lives in County Wicklow.
