Publisher's Synopsis
After the Soviet Union collapsed, Ukranians had to replace their Soviet passports within a year. In 1994-5, in Luhansk, social services employed photographers to photos in the homes of those who were elderly or ill. For photographer Alexander Chekmenev, witnessing how people were living out their final years made a strong impression on him. This powerful collection exhibits some of his most unique and touching shots. Born in Eastern Ukraine, Chekmenev's offers an intimate and unique insider view of what was for some a painful transition.
