A 90-minute interactive computer program, using descriptive text, video clips, animation, illustrations and microscopic images to teach the morphologic identification of parasites in clinical specimens. The program's collection of high resolution microscopic images were obtained through the use of a digital video microscope, not scanned from slides. Users can change magnification view for selected sample images; change stains for comparative viewing of selected microscopic images; view motility of selected parasites; see video clips of diagnostic techniques; and compare any two images side-by-side.;Coverage begins with an overview, and includes: blood parasites - diagnostic techniques for detection; intracellular parasites; extracellular parasites; common artifacts that can be confused with blood parasites; stool parasites - diagnostic techniques; protozoa; helminths; common artifacts; parasites from other sites, such as eyes, CSF, genitalia, skin, and urinary tract. An image index makes location easy, and a final exam made up of two separate tests provides feedback.
