Publisher's Synopsis

Panhandle Portraits, a Glimpse at the Diverse Residents of West Virginia's Eastern Panhandle, is a coffee table-style book featuring compelling portraits of West Virginians and their unique characteristics. The book focuses on the eight counties comprising the Eastern Panhandle of Berkeley, Grant, Hampshire, Hardy, Jefferson, Mineral, Morgan and Pendleton. The portraits explore athletes, historians, doctors, artists, craftsmen, entrepreneurs, adventurers, volunteers, farmers, pastors, mavericks, business owners, beloved community members, trailblazers, survivors, mentors and leaders. The goal was to examine the "everyday person" while still representing industries or organizations prevalent in the Eastern Panhandle such as horse racing, car racing, history preservation, war reenactment, agriculture and outdoor adventure. This first volume contains 38 portraits and corresponding profiles, with some photos featuring more than one person plus an introduction and index.
