Overview of Habitat, Behavior, and Appearance of Pancake Tortoises Primarily found in Kenya and Tanzania savannas and shrublands, pancake tortoises exhibit extraordinary agility in navigating the rough terrain. Pancake tortoises have developed a flattened shell that enables them to fit into small cracks and rock formations for protection from predators and harsh temperatures, in contrast to many other tortoise species that have thick, dome-shaped shells.
