Bookseller Notes
A scarce book, published the year after the author's death. Medley was a stock-jobber, whose various tracts, pamphlets and newspaper articles are here collected for the first time; his status as an 'earnest and convinced believer in the doctrines of Richard Cobden' is declared in the Preface, but also in the use of the insignia of the Cobden Club - declaring its aim to foster 'Free Trade, Peace, Goodwill among Nations' - on the title-page and the binding. The George Webb Medley Endowment Fund at the University of Oxford continues to award prizes to the best work in the area of P.P.E. As well as his writings in this area, Medley was a chess-player of some renown.
