A few giraffe facts: A giraffe's neck alone can be 6 feet long and weigh 600 lbs while its legs are another 6 feet. So females grow up to 14 feet and weigh up to 1,500 lbs. (3/4 ton) while males grow to 18 feet and weigh up to 3,000 lbs. (1.5 tons). They are able to feast from treetops so rarely have to compete with other species for food. Because of all the moisure in the food they eat, they can go days, weeks, months without water -- which is lucky because when they do drink, they have to splay their legs to reach the surface of the water.
