Publisher's Synopsis

Volume 3 of the "Oxford Textbook of Functional Anatomy" covers the head and neck. As in volumes 1 and 2 there are introductory chapters on how to think systematically about tissues, on medical imaging, and on general development of the head and neck. The main part of the book is divided into seminars each of which require 2-3 hours study. Seminars 1-8 deal systematically with structural features and movements of the head and neck, and with the upper respiratory and alimentary tracts. Seminars 9-16 cover the interior of the skull, the orbit, face and neck with emphasis on their cranial and autonomic nerve supplies. To aid understanding, a brief account of development of an organ and its surface projections is frequently given, and liberal use is made of diagrams, photographs, radiographs, and endoscopic views of normal and abnormal organs. A section is devoted to cross sectional scans which are becoming increasingly important. Each seminar contains questions to enable readers to monitor their progress.
