Publisher's Synopsis
Keith DeLong and his polio-stricken best friend, Flea, overcame individual hurdles in the first novel, 'If Bullfrogs Had Wings'. This sequel, set two years later, contains another heart-warming story of striving against the odds to get: 'Out of the Rough'. Family, friendship, and determination can bring individuals out of darkness to grasp the rainbow of their dreams. Keith watches his dreams smashed by a series of events, out of his control. This 125k 'cross-over' novel shows the life of an eighteen-year-old dealing with harsh realities and making the tough choices they demand. Obstacles ranging from loss, fear, abandoning dreams, and a brush with death are much more than he ever imagined. Life deals the cards - Keith plays them. With mountain-grown determination, he overcomes and reaches his dream. This is fully realized as he and Flea walk side-by-side on the green grass during the West Virginia Amateur Tournament. Review by YA author Larry Webb: Just finished "If Bullfrogs Had Wings" and "Out of the Rough" by Lee Carey. Both are great books, but I think I enjoyed "Out of the Rough" the best. To obtain the best effect, read them back to back in order. Lee crammed a lot into these two books--life lessons, priorities, working through adversity, and more. He emphasizes the fact that the words, "I" and "Me" are the two smallest words in the English lexicon. Words like family, friendship, love, devotion, and courage are among the largest. Once you've convinced yourself that no more disasters could possibly happen, one does. I challenge any "normal" person to read through the two-book series and stay dry-eyed. In the verbiage of the Flea, "It ain't gonna happen." *Non-golfers - Have no fear - Golf is only the vehicle to carry this story. *Author's Note: Out of my nine novels, these two stories featuring Keith and Flea are my favorites and very dear to my heart. "If Bullfrogs Had Wings" is the first in this series. I plan to begin writing the third and final of this trilogy in the fall of 2015. Thank you for sharing your time to read and hopefully review on Amazon. Keep smilin'... Lee
