Publisher's Synopsis
Three in the morning, a hand latches onto my arm and jerks me off the bed. My father is usually careful not to leave visible marks-not this time. His face and dark vacant eyes, full of anger. He leaves me on the floor without a word. I decide: I'm not going to hide what you did to me this time, and you're not going to get away with it.
Told partially through the eyes of the child experiencing unrelenting physical and psychological abuse, Michele shares her uplifting and inspirational story.
When Michele moves into adulthood filled with fear and misconceptions about life and love, a twisted path follows, making choices from bad to worse: a suicide attempt, two failed marriages, a child she's unsure how to love, and thirty-eight moves-all trying to escape herself and a world she is ill-equipped to understand.
She struggles with her inner devils and fails: her work persona-intelligent, capable, and a pleasure to work with; her personal life-confused, troubled, and sad. While in therapy, unable to share her innermost feelings, she pours her deepest feelings into letters she never shows to her therapist.
Therapy helps but never heals Michele's damaged psyche. Then one day she finds something she hopes will bring her out of the darkness that has plagued her life, and into the light. Will this be the answer she has so desperately sought?
