Publisher's Synopsis
Born in 1928, Billy Hopkins lived happily in a tenement home on the outskirts of Manchester with his large Catholic family, hatching money-making schemes with his many friends. When war came and the Luftwaffe dominated the night sky, Billy was evacuated to Blackpool, to a landlady who gave Billy's rations to her own children, while Billy lived on a starvation diet. Here he enjoyed his first romance - considerably more straightforward than those that were to follow! OUR KID is a delightful evocation of a northern boyhood. Nostalgic, sad and funny, it recalls an upbringing and an environment now vanished.
