Orangutans are great apes that live in the rainforests of Indonesia and Malaysia. Today, they live on only a small part of Borneo and Sumatra, but during the Pleistocene epoch, they inhabited much of Southeast Asia. At one time, they were regarded as a single species, and were believed to have evolved from the same species as humans.
