Publisher's Synopsis

Ingrid and her daughter Sally go to visit Ingrid's mother. She reveals to them some deep dark secrets of her past. She tells Ingrid that during World War II she was a spy for British Intelligence. Ingrid believes her mother is suffering from dementia and doesn't believe a word. So Jane then reveals her story, beginning with her time in France, working as a British spy and living in a chateau that is occupied by Nazi officers. She recounts stories of rape, torture, imprisonment and murder that make Ingrid's blood run cold. Ingrid however, is still unconvinced that her mother is telling the truth. So, in order to prove her story, Jane takes her daughter and granddaughter to meet some people who survived the war with her and who can verify her amazing tale. Eventually Ingrid, although horrified, becomes convinced that her mother is in fact telling the truth. Her mother explains that her silence has been to protect Ingrid and her daughter Sally from harm, because her past has now come back to haunt her. As Jane continues to reveal the sordid details of her clandestine involvement in the war, frightening things begin happening to her, to Ingrid and Sally, escalating into open conflict, kidnapping, bloodshed and murder, from which there appears to be no escape.
