Publisher's Synopsis
Once Upon A Time In Connecticut is a historical non-fiction book written by Caroline Clifford Newton. The book tells the story of the early settlement of Connecticut, from the arrival of the first European settlers in the 1600s to the American Revolution. The author uses primary sources and historical documents to paint a vivid picture of life in colonial Connecticut, including the challenges faced by the settlers, their relationships with Native Americans, and the political and social developments that shaped the state's history. The book also explores the lives of notable figures from Connecticut's past, including Puritan leader Thomas Hooker and Revolutionary War hero Nathan Hale. Overall, Once Upon A Time In Connecticut provides a fascinating glimpse into the early history of one of America's oldest and most influential states.Nearly one hundred years after the Declaration of Independence the tail of King George's horse was dug up on a farm in Wilton, Connecticut, and a piece of his saddle was found there at about the same time. The tradition in Wilton is that the ox-cart carrying the broken statue passed through Wilton on its way to Litchfield, and that the saddle and the tail were thrown away there. Just why, no one knows; perhaps the load was too heavy; possibly--some people think--because it was found that they were not of pure lead and could not be used to make bullets. Most of the statue, however, seems to have reached Litchfield safely. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
