Publisher's Synopsis
On the Future of Our Educational Institutions, by German philosopher, philologist, and author Friedrich Nietzsche, was originally published in English in 1910, as translated by John McFarland Kennedy. The work is a series of five public lectures delivered by Nietzsche at Basel University in 1872, in which Nietzsche looks at the attempt in 19th century Germany to make education public, and because of this, its inherent politicisation. Doing so, Nietzsche points out the deep contradictions within the gymnasium system. Arguing that higher education should have its limits, in the standards it needs to maintain, and in the number of individuals able to attain them.
