Publisher's Synopsis
Here is a detailed notation of over 200 Kentucky folk tunes, including ""Bonaparte's Retreat"", which was lifted, note-for-note by Aaron Copland for the ""Hoedown"" section of his ballet, ""Rodeo"". Many of the practitioners whose tunes are transcribed here were born before 1900. Jeff Todd Titon plays the tunes in their historical context, provides biographical sketches of the performers and offers suggestions for contemporary fiddlers who want to use the book for performance. A compact disc of recordings is also included.
