Publisher's Synopsis
Woman Sleuth Cozy Mystery Romance: What was under Hemingways Family Home and Estate? Shane Hemingway is driving into work singing along with her radio blaring thinking what a wonderful life I have, a good job, albeit an unusual one and a good steady boyfriend who is thinking of us marrying but if only I still had my parents I miss them so much. Shane is a qualified motor mechanic and really good at it. The sadness that one see's flicker across her face at times is due to have lost both her mother and father in a car accident four years ago. Shane's dad was the only son of the wealthy Hemingway family of Cape Cod all now deceased except for one survivor who is Shane or so and others think. Shane had heard hushed talks about her Dad having a sister called Julie but knew nothing about her, nor had she ever seen her in the flesh or in photographs. Shane only has one male cousin on her mother's side Dylan North who still lives in the Cape cod area. Dylan has his own riding school and Shane has always kept in touch with him. Shane hears the weather forecast and thinks hmm, maybe this weekend I will be snowed in. Being a happy person Shane thinks well let me stock up with food and take the opportunity to clear out the boxes in the basement provided I can make it warm enough down there. Albert Bond Shane's boyfriend is still in Europe on a business deal so Shane will be alone. Later that day the supervisor of the garage announces that he has contacted all the customers and no one is worried about getting their cars back for a few days, so he has decided that due to the heavy snowfalls predicted that they would close up shop early in the day and stay closed for a few days until the weather stabilized. Once the repair shop had closed Shane dashed over to the Grocery and stocked up on all sorts of food and drove home. She made it just in time as the snow really started pelting down. Shane has gas heaters in her home and even in the basement so is very comfortable although the basement heater does not work as well as it should. Shane spent the evening watching her favorite shows and off course, speaking with Albert on the phone. The next morning Shane arose lazed around and then pushed herself into entering the basement to go through many of the boxes that contained a part of her and her mom and dad's life, even though a lot more were still in the family home that she still maintained in Cape Cod. Shane started with the boxes that she thought she remembered what her mom had told her went into each box, but was surprised how little she did in actuality remember. Going through the boxes, Shane couldn't believe what trash filled them and proceeded to put a huge amount to one side that she would take to the dump or to the salvation army when the roads were snow free. As Shane cleared each box she made sure that she had cleared each box completely before putting the trash in or what she wanted to keep. Shane was clearing one box and noticed suddenly a very small piece of paper stuck in the underside flaps of the box. Shane pulled gently and the paper came away without tearing into her hands. She looked at the paper and realized it was a minuscule map of her home and grounds. Shane thinks yes, this is the family home, but something is not right. She goes to her computer and enlarges it and looks again having the same feeling that something is not right actually almost sinister and it seems like there is another city operating within the walls of the house and estate but just can't put her finger on it. Everything seems so weird to Shane that she decides there and then that she must request leave and go back to Cape Cod. She phones her boss at home and requests a leave of absence once the snow has melted to which he agrees.
