Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Official Catalogue and Price Lists on Public and Domestic Art Glass
Lishing this extensive Catalogue of our work, we fully realize it is welcome with all architects and builders of culture. Con trary to the usual character or catalogues we have published not the cheapest we make only, but have tried to give as much variety of style and treatment, especially of that class of work which is more decidedly entitled to the name of art Glass. Art glass has made great strides in' the last few years, and the dendand for fine and really artistic work has been noticed clearly, and in response to this improvement of the wants of the building public, we have issued this book, which we trust will be kept and guarded by you as a valuable book, and with the sin cere hope that it may be' of some use to you and benefit to us. Especi ally the finer grades of art glass, figure work especially, has received great recognition and to-day we are in a position to render any figure subject in glass without losing much of the softness of canvas. Contrary to the usual custom of pricing the design high and sell by discount, we have marked each one in the price list with net prices, thus enabling anyone receiving this book to know the cost of any window without troubling himself with the discount arithmetic. In doing this we realize that we give our competitors a great advantage of underpricing our designs. But, we have partially counteracted this by copyrighting this entire book, fully resolved to make unreserved use of the protection of the copyright law of the U. S. Besides everyone well knows, prices are not the only consideration in work of art, the quality being the principal point. These prices are net, (with the exception of a discount for cash), for best work, made with best material and with best workmanship. Any of these prices can be lowered from ten to twenty per cent. If we are not to guarantee exact reproduction in glass, and if the so-called ordinary mercantile article is acceptable. Although this book is extensive and covering all branches with careful consideration, it may be that you don't find your choice design, or that you would like to see one or the other in colors. If so, ad dress an envelope to the Art Director of the firm, with your request, and you will receive water - color sketches gratis. Only state to him the style and color and scheme of your residence and the approximate cost of the glass you wish to buy. Should any of the recipients of this book serve on church coznmittees, we would like for them to write to us for our large catalogue on church work, of which this book contains two pages. In conclusion we wish to state that although we do not claim to have no equals, we unreservedly state, we have no superiors in our line. Our line work and especially our figure work has gained wide spread recognition owing principally to the fine tones of the flesh, which is an invention and secret of our own. We don't care to brag about ourselves, but modestly ask you for a trial, feeling sure then of your future favors. Hoping to have the pleasure to hear from you.
