Publisher's Synopsis
I have been excluded from friendship groups, ridiculed in the workplace and have been openly bullied due to my sexuality. I have been always been a fiercely independent person and challenged myself to deal with issues and problems I have faced. Looking back, I realise that this probably wasn't the best way to deal with life - I've always taken things on face value and found myself apologising for the way I am or accepting that I am automatically worth less than others based on my sexuality. The aim of this guide is to help employees at all levels to create and provide a safe environment for members of the LBGTQ+ community within their businesses. Not so that they can continue to be segregated and discover other 'people like them' but to really focus on creating a sense of belonging and value that enables self-development, progression and contribute healthy mental wellbeing. You can create an environment with unique networking opportunities, the ability to engage directly with LGBTQ+ staff and really help drive your business to achieving equality. Whilst this is directed at businesses, the principles in this document can really be applied across society in various settings such a local social clubs, charities or community groups. There are no scientific studies or bold claims about the perfect solution to inclusion, just really simple methods to creating a successful network, grown from my own experiences and my interactions with others in the LGBTQ+ community that I have met.
