This book is the first in a series. It begins as a fairy tale retelling of "Cinderella" but turns into so much more. I was interested in exploring the vague implications of "happily ever after," and with this book series, I aim to illuminate that mysterious denouement present in so many fairy tales. I want to provide my own interpretation of what might have happened to Cinderella after the ball. This book is similar to fairy tale retellings written by Robin McKinley, Donna Jo Napoli, Margaret Peterson Haddix, Shannon Hale, and Gail Carson Levine.
